Send a message to card holders

Under Gift cards, Messages you can write a short note that shows on the lock screen of everyone who keeps one of your cards in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It also stays on the card itself (on the back in Apple Wallet, in the card details in Google Wallet).

Choose who gets it

• Every wallet card: gift cards, coupons, punch cards and membership cards.
• One kind: Gift cards, Coupons, Punch cards or Membership cards.
• One offer or programme: a single coupon, punch card or membership programme.

Tick Only holders who said yes to marketing to leave out everyone who didn't (see Contact details, reminders and results). Gift cards never ask, so they are left out when this is ticked.

Only cards that can be used and sit in a phone wallet get the message. Cancelled, used and expired cards are skipped, and nothing is emailed or texted.

Check the reach, then send

Before you send, the page counts the cards in the group, the iPhones that hold them and the Google Wallet saves. The preview shows how the notification looks. Messages are up to 150 characters. Sending asks you to confirm, and can't be taken back. Most phones show it within a minute; a group of thousands can take up to ten minutes.

The Sent list shows every message, who it went to and how many phones it reached.

Limits

• One message per group per day.
• iPhones only show a message when the text changes, so you can't send the exact same words twice. Change the wording a little.
• Google allows three notifications per card a day, and balance updates count. Past that, Google adds the message to the card without a notification. The Sent list counts these.
